The Best Sunscreens For Your Skin Type
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ky_Cheah]Ky Cheah
Sunscreen is like any other product you massage into your face. If it isn't formulated to complement your complexion, it can irritate your skin. Here's some healthy advice for five specific skin types.
Ultra-fair: Sunblocks with an SPF of 30 or higher that contain a physical block like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.
Oily: An oil-free, noncomedogenic and fragrance-free gel or spray. These formulas are light and nongreasy, so they're less likely to clog pores.
Sensitive: Physical sunscreens like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. They're less irritating than chemical ones.
Dark: A transparent spray or gel with chemical sunscreens such as Parsol 1789. Physical sunscreens like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide can look chalky on dark skin.
Treated with retinoids: Since retinoids such as Retin-A, Renova and over-the-counter retinol creams rapidly cause skin to peel, the new skin underneath is extra-sensitive and burns easily. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher. Physical UVA blocks like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are less likely to irritate skin than chemical ones.
The average person applies only half the amount of sunscreen required to safeguard skin, which translates to only about a third of the protection stated on the product label. It takes the equivalent of two shot glasses (at least) to cover your entire body from head to toe. Apply sunscreen half an hour before you go outside, and put it on while naked, not forgetting spots like the ears, the base of the neck, the tops of feet, and the backs of knees and upper arms. Reapply every two hours, or immediately after swimming, regardless of SPF. Moisturizers and makeup with SPF aren't strong enough, especially if you're going to be in direct sunlight. Keep in mind that UVA rays can penetrate many fabrics, as well as glass, so apply sunscreen onto your shoulders and torso if you sit near a window or spend a lot of time in a car.
